What router series is best for larger businesses? The Cisco 3800 Series integrated services routers are meant for large businesses, medium-sized businesses and branch offices. Advantages of using the router includes simplifying management, lowering costs, and providing a secure platform for fast delivery of voice, data, wireless, security and video. The 3800 Series has similar features as the 2800 Series does but with a greater number of switch ports, VPN tunnels, and more call-processing support.
The Cisco 3800 Series includes:
- A modular platform with a range of interface options
- Up to two 10/100/1000 Mbps built-in routed ports
- Built-in security
- Cisco Router and Security Device Manager (SDM) to simplify management
- Up to 112 10/100 Mbps switch ports with optional Power over Ethernet (PoE) to provide DC power to IP phones and other network devices
- Up to 2500 VPN tunnels
- Call-processing support for up to 240 Cisco IP phones through the Cisco CallManager Express (CME)
- Cisco Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) allows the router to provide call-processing functions for up to 720 Cisco IP phones to keep voice service in operation if the Cisco CME connection is lost
- Supports wireless LAN standards 802.11a/b/g
- Supports a Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) port for Gigabit Ethernet
- Built-in power supply connector
