Antennas are available with directional radiation and Omni directional patterns. Maximum distance, coverage area, antenna height, indoor location and outdoor location are all important factors to consider when purchasing antennas. Contact ACC Telecom for more information on which antenna to use. An ACC team member can go over factors for indoor antennas such as ceiling height, internal obstructions and building construction. For outdoor antennas, possible obstructions like trees, hills, buildings and vehicles need to be considered.
Tips For Installing Your Antenna:
- Use professional installers. ACC Telecom’s certified and experienced installers will ensure that your antenna is installed safely and correctly.
- Never touch an antenna when it is transmitting.
- Keep antennas away from metal.
- Select a directional antenna when linking between two buildings and have your installer ensure that the directional antenna is positioned correctly so that it faces the other antenna.
- An Omni directional antenna should be placed as close to the middle of the desired coverage area as possible.
- To increase the coverage area, an antenna should be placed as high as possible.
- Keep antenna towers away from overhead power lines. Try to make the distance between the two at least twice the tower height.
Antenna Types:
Omni directional:
What it is: Has a 360-degree radiation pattern
When to use: Use when coverage in all directions is needed or when communicating with wireless client devices.
Directional:
What it is: Has a strong radiation pattern in a specific direction by focusing the radiation energy.
When to use: Use when a greater coverage distance than an Omni directional antenna can provide is needed.
Diversity:
What it is: Consists of two antennas where a radio receives signals on both antennas by transmitting on the antenna that receives the strongest signal.
When to use: Helps to improve system performance when signals are reflected along different paths to the antenna.
